Job Opportunity: Plan Reviewer

The City of Bowling Green has an opening for a:

PLAN REVIEWER
NEIGHBORHOODS & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT – BUILDING

This position reviews construction plans under the applicable building, life/fire safety and energy codes and provides technical advice to building inspectors and individuals who submit plans for review.   Advises and assists the Chief Building Inspector in developing policies and procedures concerning interpretation and application of building codes.  
 
DUTIES:  Reviews and evaluates proposed construction documents, architectural plans and specifications to insure compliance.  Provides technical advice to field inspectors, design professionals, contractors and owners concerning codes alternatives, construction methods, and alternatives.  Serves as lead reviewer in examination of building plans; explains and interprets applicable codes to interested parties.  Provides training seminars and in-house training sessions.  Meets with inspectors and/or contractors in the field to resolve problems, clarifies code interpretations and any other issues pertaining to an active building project.  Performs all phases of building inspections, including construction, alteration, addition, and demolition phases; inspects buildings to verify code compliance for structural conditions, change of occupancy type, use feasibility studies prior to purchase or tentative occupancy, and fire damage reviews; Reviews commercial and residential building permits; copies, makes notations, and disburses permit applications.  Provides educational information relating to building codes to contractors and the general public.  Responds to citizen complaints regarding building code violations; makes on-site inspections; completes necessary forms, and follows up to make sure violations are corrected.
 
REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related), with a minimum of six years of practical experience as a building official and/or inspector (or related position) required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.   Must possess a current ICC certification as a Building Inspector Level III, or equivalent, and possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
 
SALARY:  Pay Grade 123; $56,140/yr. ($26.99/hr.); plus full benefit package
 
WORK HOURS:  40 hours per week; typically Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with occasional overtime
